Welcome to the Seagull Writing Retreat and your one-week stay in the private bedroom of your choice with Saturday arrival, Saturday departure, with airport transfers included.

Imagine a house devoted to writing–a DIY residency at your pace–in the beachside community of Garden City, SC (just below Myrtle Beach), a skinny spit of sand between the mainland coastline and the sea. Two blocks from a stunningly beautiful ocean beach at the southernmost tip of Myrtle Beach’s famous 60-mile Grand Strand, the Seagull — a five-bedroom house with elevator — sits on a tidal marsh with a long boardwalk out to a dock. Lovely inside and out, it’s in a residential neighborhood far from the tourist bustle. At most, you’ll share the house with me and four other writers, but some weeks it may be just two or three.
Easy and stress free: you fly into the airport, I pick you up. After a quick stop at a supermarket where you’ll buy your groceries for the week, you’ll arrive at the house, settle in, meet your housemates, and write. No obligations. Nothing to worry about (other than getting your own meals). At the end of the week, I’ll drive you back to the airport. No rental car concerns, no booking rooms or other time-consuming details. Just show up and enjoy a house by the sea with 60 miles of beach to walk if you’d rather do that than write (but I do encourage you to write).
Your participation in any programming is purely voluntary, but I’ll be offering an hour-long workshop every morning from 9-10 am on some aspect of writing; those attending will decide what’s offered (I’ll forward a list of available topics). And there’s the possibility of an afternoon critique groups if participants want it, or I am available to read your work at the end of the day and offer developmental editing (big picture feedback on the work overall). Depending on the group, we may collaborate on evening meals together.
The daytime temp in February averages 58 degrees. Front and back decks soak up the sunshine. Plenty of space to write inside. A generous dining room table. A comfortable living room. Outside seating for writing, open to the marsh vistas, and covered seating on a porch lined with rocking chairs. (The pool will NOT be open during our stay.)

Bedroom #4 – Queen Creekside (Green)
$600/week. Located on the ground floor, this room with queen-sized bed shares two hallway bathrooms with Bedrooms #3 and #5. The window overlooks the rear patio.

Bedroom #5 – Double Bed Creekside (Blue)
$549/week. Located on the ground floor, this room with double-sized bed shares two hallway bathrooms with Bedrooms #3 and #4. The window overlooks the rear patio.

Bedroom #1 – King Streetside
$700/week. Located on the second floor (the main living area) this room with king-sized bed shares a hallway bathroom with the living room / dining room / kitchen spaces. The window overlooks the front of the house.

Bedroom #2 – King Master Creekside
$900/week. Located on the second floor (the main living area) this roomy master bedroom with king-sized bed has its own ensuite bathroom, access to the rear deck and a spectacular view of the tidal marsh. With a comfy chair and matching ottoman, you can isolate yourself for the entire week. SOLD OUT.
How to Reserve Your Room
Fill out the form below with your room and week request — if you’re flexible, provide your first, and second choices for room and week #. If you wish to book more than one week, indicate if you’re flexible on room choice — I may be able to accommodate multiple weeks if you’re open to changing rooms between weeks.
Once your choice is confirmed, a $50 deposit must be made within 48 hours via PayPal or Venmo. The first payment of half the total amount is required within one week (you’ll receive instructions via email). You will be invoiced for the remainder in a second payment due December 30, 2019.
